hey all,

I've not played all the assassins creeds series, but the ones ive played i enjoyed, not enough to finish the story but to use the sandbox, (spent 80 hours) being a pirate for example :D

i have
1 & 2
Black flag (my fav)
Syndicate

my Question is
what AC games do NOT not put you back into the real world cack?

i tried playing Black flag again, but going back to real world = instant exiting of the game its just sooo boring & pointless

they all do, ac3 isn't so bad as the parkour sections are kinda fun and don't take long to get over and done with.

a lot of folk didn't like 3 but it's pretty good in its own way.

Syndicate was pretty light on the modern world stuff as far as I recall.

Edit - just realised you said you have it already. Unity isn't too bad.

I know I'm one of the few but I love the real world stuff, not the gameplay (which is generally cack) but the story. It was interesting and held the series together. I'm disappointed that they've mostly dropped it.

I don't mind it either. I thought it was integrated pretty well into Black Flag, for example. The fact that Ubisoft have dropped that side of the story, just serves to highlight their directionless "chuck out a new iteration every 12 months, profit and worry abouth the rest later" attitude, imo.

Yea, getting rid of it essentially gave them a blank cheque to do whatever they want. They obviously had a plan for the real world stuff which was nearing a conclusion with AC3, I guess they were worried about running out of story so just dropped it so they could recycle the formula over and over again.

I've yet to play Syndicate because of this, I'll pick it up at some point but with no story progression it seems pointless to me.

It's a major part of the story, they all do it. If anything it's a shame that they've minimised that part in a few of the recent games. Black Flag in particular is barely an AC game.

I think the general narrative strength of the story and characters has slowly degraded over the years (which is why i'm glad its on hiatus as a series at the moment). I also didn't mind the modern world elements as it helped to reinforce the narrative and ground it more in reality. The problem is that the series as it progressed became basically a giant sandbox with not very compelling reasons to spend your time in it (especially so with Unity, which is the last game i played in the series. AC2: Brotherhood being the high point for me). I'd like to think in any future game they will focus more on the narrative and characters.

As for a recommendation to the OP, i would say give Unity a go if its on sale for £20 or less. It doesnt really have any modern world elements which you say is important to you but I will say Unity's story is not very compelling and despite a number of patches still has performance issues, glitches and bugs (at least on PS4)

maybe for the real world stuff, but man the regular plot is dull, only ac game i've not finished because it was that unengaging, i'll agree black flag had a very lacklustre plot but at least it had pirates to balance for that, unity just had dull grey paris and a cod esque customise your loadout option (although on saying that beating on fools with a halberd was fun)

plot wise for me 3 was the pinnacle, the whole story of vengeance got me good.
