Had the Virgin AC router for a while now, and having just been upgraded to 210 mbps, I am wanting to get that on my PC, as currently only my dad has it, which is annoying as he dosent even use AC wireless, or have ANY need for fast wired speeds AT ALL. But hey, he wont let me have the router.
Only getting 50mbps on my 500mbps plugs and 210 direct wired into the router. On my wireless card (300mbps I think) I only get between 48 and 53. The ping on CS:GO is strangely high (like 60's), and spikes quite a lot in games of CS:GO to stupid numbers, only for it to shoot back down a few seconds later but still annoying.

I am looking at AC wireless cards, but from the router downstairs, there is the ceiling, atleast 1 wall, depending on the way I put it, the house is ALL brick walls, no plasterboard.
Router->wall->ceiling->PC

Any help or advice is appreciated as £40 on a PCI adapter is something I could do without wasting :p

tbh you have no chance using the VM SH, you would need to change the router to a better router a 300mbps wireless card will do 200mbps with a decent hub. The best way is run a network cable. however if that really is not an option then the VM superhub is great with no walls but it does not have the RF power for brick walls. or the antennas. your best bet is a Gigabit set of powerline adapters. you will likely see 200mbps across a set of those however it could be as low as 100mbps depending on distance and wire quality.
