On my 2002 E39 525i Auto my accelerator pedal has broke. The plastic hinge at the bottom has completely sheered. Made an interesting drive home using the little knob to accelerate keeping it completely straight.

Looks a reasonably common problem on e39/e46. Guides for e39 seem to be for v8 which looks slighly different. Anyone changed one before?

If it's the electronic pedal rather than mechanical then I did the same thing quite recently.

The pedal assembly slides off the base to the left, you have to insert a large flat head screwdriver in a small notch on the left hand side of the assembly. Can't remember whether you push it up or down, try both, then slide the pedal off to the left.

You can then unplug the wire, removing the pedal assembly completely. The base it slides onto is attached to the chassis by a bolt at the top and (most likely now broken) clips at the bottom. Fortunately, there is enough plastic clip left to hold the pedal in position so I haven't bothered to fix it, but if you find a replacement part let me know!

Part 2 is the bracket I'm talking about. Do check yours is the same though.

Part number is 6772702. Check ebay, searching either the part number or 'E39 Pedal Bracket'.

Shouldn't be more than £10-15 when one comes up. If it's the actual pedal that's broken then there are loads of used ones on ebay between £10 and £30.

I had the same thing happen. I think my foot slipped or something and the bloody thing just sheared! Held it together with lots of packing tape until it went to the dealer.
It was company car though so can't comment on price. Can't see it being an expensive fix.

Well ordered one £109 from BMW. Seem to go for £30 on ebay but they can get it me today.

Will have a think

Ouch!
I assume yours is the later electronic one?
Snapped the pedal on my 528 and got a replacement from a breakers, cost me £5!

Don't recall any wires attached to it mind you.

Well bought the new part has made a difference assume the old one had lost is accuracy over 12 years.

Mothers drive is a steep hil, normally in dry end up spinning wheels getting off it. Pretty wet today but managed get off smoothly with no slip.

Glad i bought new part even if it was stoopid money for what it is.
