On my audi A3 1.8T Im not sure if there is something wrong or if it is just me...

When idling the car is fine, if I put down the accelerator the revs go up and all is ok.

When putting it into first gear, the slowling driving away lifting the clutch up there seems to be something I can only describe as a dead spot or something with the accelerator going down it will hit the dead spot then almost do a surge and bolt forward ...its hard to explain, but thats the gist??

Any ideas what it might be? or is it just me lol

Do the revs climb a little too high then fall just as the car surges forward ?

If so, the clutch may be slipping?

if clutch is slipping in 1st, then it would be slipping all the time and you not get anywhere!

suspect either sticking throttle cable or throttle body.
If it's drive-by-wire then may need an adaptation to reset the sensor.
If cable fed then check the cable for smooth operation.

Things like a reoccuring missfire will bring on the EML, an EPC (Electronic throttle) error will also bring on that light.

Do you hear any air noises when you try and pull away?

Isn't this something to do with the clutch switch at the top of the clutch peddle?

Agreed, this sounds like it could be the good old clutch switch problem. Basically when you depress the clutch under acceleration, it revs a little. This is indicative of a faulty (or incorrectly replaced) clutch switch. I had this exact issue. Is this what happens?

They are peanuts to buy and a cinch to fit.
