Just installed this cooler to my hd 4890...now the heat sinks for the ram are a real pain. one keeps falling off! I tried to stick it to the ram about 9 times now...Do you think I could get away with it not being there?

or should i super glue the sucka?

I had a similar problem, the adhesive really is pants isn't it, I just put them on the best I could then installed the card into my case and hopefully the heat will have helped cure the adhesive, none have fallen off yet.

Did you clean the RAM chip thoroughly with some isopropyl or similar before you stuck the heatsink on there?

The heat pads found on stock coolers (the sort that just press in contact with the RAM using the cooler to hold them) always leave a really slippery residue behind that the sticky pads on your replacement heatsink will have a real hard time adhering to.

If there is air blowing on to the RAM from the new cooler, then it will probably be ok without them to be honest, my view is that they don't do very much. You can check the RAM temps though with CPU-Z or similar?

Are you sure the high pitched whining is from the twin turbo's fans? Could be capacitor squealing from your card itself. The arctic cooling stuff on the ramsinks are rubbish. Tbh if you aren't overclocking the memory too far you could probably get away with it bare.

Did you use a pencil rubber on the RAM before installing the heatsinks. The instructions on my after-market cooler for a 4870 told me to do that and I haven't had any fall off.

Yet.
