accelero twin turbo issue

Hey guys.

Just been fitting a fan controller which some of you may remember me asking about this week. Noticed my twin turbo fans are not spinning even when connected via molex. Tried diff connections with no joy.

Any ideas?

anyone? surely plugging it into molex would make it spin from power on? so there must be a fault somewhere along the line?

If you assume the molex connection is sound then the fault must lie with the twin turbo. Check connections as maybe when messing about with it you've broken a contact or wire or something.

I've no idea how a twin turbo is powered so can't really give more insight.

It's probably the best idea. If there is an issue with the wiring from the XH connector to the fans then it would probably invalidate your warranty to attempt to fix it anyway. It's probably nothing more than a sheared conductor on the XH connector preventing power from reaching the fans.

Shame though as you wouldn't normally have to return something so simple.

yea, more of a shame because i found it fitting my new components and now i dont get to test out my ssd straight away :(

I'm getting really fed up with the graphics card i have (4870) any ideas how much i'd have to spend to get a similar card that doesnt sound like a jet engine as standard?

A HD5770 would be about the same as a HD4870 in speed, you can get them for about £100 but I don't think that would be very smart as it's just a sideways step. I think you might need to go 68xx or 69xx to actually get an upgrade. Maybe a GTX460 would be a good one from the Nvidia camp, a good midrange card that's supposedly not too noisy.

I went HD4890 1GB to HD6950 2GB and it's a fair bit faster, around twice as fast maybe but I did need to fit a Thermalright Shaman to it as it's a reference blower fan type heatsink.

That's true. Im short on money atm so will have to wait and see how this pans out before spending more money.

I want one thats basically silent. That would be amazing.

Thing is, the heatsink on the accelero is huge. I've got 5 fans, so the inside temperature would be pretty cool. Would it be safe to run the pc? Surely if it overheats it'd just shut down?

Thanks for ur advice so far Tealc

You could always remove the stock accelero fans and ghetto mod some of your own on there with sticky backed plastic and milk bottle tops (or cable ties and/or bungee cord)

Truly silent passive cards tend to be quite expensive and lower powered models, although there is a passive 6850 card on it's way which shouldn't be too bad. http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=62073

i did consider that lol.

So it wouldnt be safe to just run it with no fan? the heatsink is huge but gets hot very quick.

Whats the worst that could happen?

The accelero is designed as an actively cooled heatsink so needs very good airflow to function. The heatsink would need to be several times larger to passively cool a 150W+ card effectively.

If the card overheats it'll shut down. If my 4890 got too hot it used to rev the fan up to 100%. Not sure if you could break the GPU but I'm sure it won't thank you for running it too hot.

laaame lol. I guess i'll have to wait it out for the response then.

Thanks for the advice though!
