I've seen conflicting views on the acceptable temps, and was wondering.

I'm on a 4.5Ghz OC, fluctuating between 1.3v and 1.31v vcore. 6 Hours prime stable, IBT stable with maximum memory used, OCCT stable for 4 hours (Haven't got round to testing for longer with OCCT or Prime)

I'm on a z68ap-d3 with a gellid tranquillo. Temps are around 65-72 degrees under load, and it only goes up to 70-72 when prime or occt has been running for 2-3 hours.

Is this acceptable for a pretty much 24/7 turned on pc?

I think as long as you stay under 72c for everyday use you are fine. For benching try to stay under 80C although i believe its 90c and beyond where throttling occurs.

***OVERCLOCKING GUIDELINES***

- Do not exceed 1.425v core voltage, doing so could limit lifespan of the CPU
- Aim to keep temperatures below 70c underload if at all possible
- Do not overclock with BCLK, again doing so could limit lifespan of the CPU
- Recommended memory voltage is 1.50v, so make sure to run your memory at 1.50v, higher than 1.60v could limit lifespan of the CPU
- These recommendations come from OcUK and Intel, your warranty is un-affected but we highly recommend you adhere to the above to make sure your CPU lifespan is un-affected
- All Sandybridge CPU's worldwide should be run at the above or lower voltages, no higher!

Ah it goes to about 50 degrees under the maximum load I ever get it too without benchmarking tools so im fine!

If it only goes to 50 degrees Celcius under Prime95/OCCT then you're doing just fine but remember there's winter outside and your ambient temp (unless you already heat you house very well) will rise. Once this happens except temps to increase somewhat, depending on the new air temp.

50°C would appear to be the maximum temperature under "normal use":

Sorry to 'gravedig' this as it were, but been in Turkey with no Internet until now!
Yeah, 50 when gaming with chrome open as well with 5/6 tabs, Zune etc.
And yeah my house is reaaally warm; student living at home and my mother hates the cold..heating almost always on!

Your getting the exact temps I get with this overclock and I run BF3 for 5 hours at a time, Skyrim for the same and other various games and I've had no crashes, shut downs or problems so its stabe and the temp ius acceptable.

Happy gaming :)
