What is an acceptable amount of time to wait for furniture to be delivered?

We ordered a dining table with chairs, sofa and arm chair on the 13th August. We received everything but the arm chair within a week. The timescale given for dining table and sofa was 1 week and for the matching chairs 6 weeks.
I've spoken to various people today as we've hit 6 weeks to ask for a delivery date and no one knows. How much longer is acceptable to wait?

If it was only an estimated delivery time I'd wait another week or so before I kicked up a fuss.

Who did you order them from? I would have thought if they'd said 6 weeks, but they weren't going to be able to deliver, then they would have contacted you to explain why and when you can expect delivery.

I waited 12 weeks for my sofas, but I was told 14 weeks at the start.

I waited 10 weeks for a sofa to be delivered. Depends if it's made to order or out of a warehouse somewhere. But yeah, contact the store to give you an update.

It was through Next. I rang their call centre and struggled to have a conversation with the girl as her English was poor. So I emailed complaints for an answer. He then responded with "We have no order under that address" Which was later followed by another email from a manager apologizing as that email shouldn't have been sent but yet they still don't have a delivery date.

wow, i've never bought furniture, but time-scales of approx 14 weeks seems insane, are you talking about normal mass produced stuff or custom stuff.

Guessing if its cheaper stuff maybe its takes 14 weeks by container ship from china or something, god knows why they wouldn't keep stock tho.

I'd wait as long as I'd agreed to when I made the purchase, since you got an estimate rather than an actual deadline/date I would have waited till that was up and then if they weren't able to give me an actual date when it would be delivered (which I found reasonable, probably about 2 weeks maximum if there was a 6 week estimate) I'd kick up a fuss. If they then went over that 2 week deadline I'd kick up a fuss then as well.

But I'm a **** when it comes to things like this, I hate waiting for stuff :p, so this might be unreasonable :p.

Acceptable amount of time is up to the delivery estimate + a small percentage error IMO

Like if the item is supposed to be delivered in 6 weeks then I guess an extra week isn't too bad.

On the other hand if the item was due in 1 week then I'd probably only tolerate 1 or 2 days over.
