Hi,

Just wondering if devices like the Archos 5 internet media tablet and ipod touch can be left in a car over night without harm? Or will the cold get at them and kill them off ?

Straight from the apple site

Environmental requirements

* Operating temperature: 32° to 95° F
(0° to 35° C)
* Nonoperating temperature: -4° to 113° F
(-20° to 45° C)
* Relative humidity: 5% to 95% noncondensing
* Maximum operating altitude: 10,000 feet
(3000 m)

Read into that what you will, i would say it would be fine as your car shoulnt get that cold inside.

Sorry if i sound stupid but i don't quite understand the figures. The Nonoperating temp seems to overlap the operating temp? And with the cold weather we been having i guess its been -6c in my car. The Archos 5 has a Laptop HDD in it, wondered if that made any diffrence?

It just means that below 0° C and above 35° C are not recccomended, yeah its kind of confusing how they list it.

Laptops usually list about 5° C as the minimum so id go with that.

I don't think the inside gets as cold as the outside though probably a few degrees higher. It should be fine so long as you let it get to room temperature slowly rather than artificially warming it up.

I'd just get in my car and turn it on and drive off lol. may be best to take in it during the winter ! Minedue some cars have a HDD built into the stereo and i guess they survive so i don't know. . .

I honestly think it will be fine, think about it your car is full of sensitive electrical gubbins that function fine in the coldest of conditions, if its bunged in the glove box it won't get anywhere near outside temp.
