Acceptable temps on HD7850?

I'm getting a bit worried about the temps on my MSI 7850 2gb (one fan version).

Its idle temp appears to be around 56c and reached 92c when I do a 15 minute Furmark stress test. The cards fan is going at around 92% when temps are at 92c.

I'm not overclocking at all.

Actual performance is fine and I haven't seen any graphics glitches (having a few issues with Football Manager 2013 but surely can't be the gfx card :)).

Most 'normal' temps I've seen for a similar card appear to be around 40c idle and mid-70c under load.

92 is a little high.

What's your case air flow like? Maybe add a couple more fans intaking?

Also, don't use Furmark as it can overvolt and damage cards. Use something like Unigine Heaven/Valley instead, or just runs of 3d Mark.

Give your card a few laps of Unigine Heaven 4 and post the temps.

Furmark is only useful for global warming and a terrible thing to run on a graphics card.

Right, Furmark uninstalled. :)

At the moment I only have a front intake and rear out in a Zalman Z9 case. The temp probe in the case says 24c.

Speccy (don't know how accurate it is) says my CPU is 29c, motherboard, 37c, hard drives around 30c.

I've now tried Unigine Heaven 4.0 with the default settings (high quality, x2 AA, 1920x1080). Temps got up to a max of 82c.

Room temps aren't exactly roasting either - around 19c.

that's too hot for that card imo

I have my fan set to 44% and very rarely if ever see above 70c,average I see are around 65c

have two of those cards and same temps for both

both clocked at 1050/1375

Cheers.

Can I really return a card that is just running very hot? As I said, I don't actually get any artifacts in games like BF3, Just Cause 2 and Far Cry 3. Th eonly issues I've had is in Football Manager 2013 -

I just can't see it being the cards fault for the FM13 issues.

have you tried fan set to 44% in ccc? and tried repasting the gpu die with some mx4 if you have any handy? if its still running hot idk why but if its stable it will be ok imo

I don't know if they would honour an rma for a hottish running gpu?

I haven't set an actual speed setting for the fan. It was going at 92% (very noisy) when I used Furmark earlier.

How long have you had it?

I've only had it a few months so it has nearly all its 3 year warranty left.

I wouldn't feel right trying to RMA it considering I'm not having any issues (apart from temps) with it.

It is only a single fan card, I think all my single fan cards have been toasty.

My GTX260 was single fan, sat at like 45 idle and hit 85 when under full load.

However those are artifacts in that screenshot, the card is too hot.

People have said reseat it, me personally would send it back and complain, get a new one and it does the same? send it back again until they give you a free 7950 for the inconvenience.

What sort of case is it in? My powercolor 7850 (single fan) idles at around 25c and can get upto 60c when gaming. (70 when benchmarking overclocked). This is in a quite spacious nzxt tempest case.

I am kind of like a worst case scenario because I am gaming in a Dell Inspiron case with no front fans and only one exhaust. My 7850 idles at around 30ºc and gets up to around 70ºc when gaming or benchmarking. However, I am just using stock voltages at the second.

That is ridiculous temperature! the 7850's dont put out a lot of heat. how long have you had the card?

I had a sapphire cooled 7850 for a while and that barely touched 60 at 1200 on the core.

A reseat may be an idea but that kind of running temperature even under furmark is wacky imo

it is too hot 82c,ive never seen that with mine, plus you should never use furmark its the spawn of the devil!!

just test in normal gaming

I might call into the place where I bought it and ask them about it. Can't do any harm. I don't fancy mucking around with thermal paste really.

It's even getting up to 62c according to MSI Kombustor) with just Windows Media Centre running and general desktop use! Just about to test a game for half an hour to see what it gets to.
