Acceptable temps on HD7850?

Just tried it with the fan set to 100% in Afterburner. Bloody noisy but the temp goes down to around 37c when idle.

I surely shouldn't have to do that though.

My 7850 (VTX3D preclocked to 1000/1225) does not go above 62c and its fairly quiet too, it doesn't have a massive heatsink/fan combo either, just a single fan. It's not a great clocker, so the voltage is already maxed out at stock :(

My old 5770 used to run very hot, always 90ish when gaming. Sounded like a 747 at takeoff.

..........

I've now tried Unigine Heaven 4.0 with the default settings (high quality, x2 AA, 1920x1080). Temps got up to a max of 82c.....

Update here.

I have/had a TV card in the PCI slot directly below the gfx cards fan. I always thought there was a decent sized gap but it appears not. They were almost touching.

After taking the TV card out and running Unigine Heaven again, I got a top temp of around 54c (compared to 82c before) and Kombustor is giving my idle temp as 25c.

I feel like an idiot. :o

I'm going to miss that TV card. It was a life saver at times. I haven't got any spare slots for anything else either.

Anyway, looks like the 'problem' is solved.

get a usb tv stick, works just as good, and glad to see the cards not faulty, the msi 7850's are problem free tbh, compared to a few 7950/70's

btw isn't the gpu in the bottom pci-e slot? don't have another higher up?

The other pci-e slot is taken by a sound card unfortunately.

I'll pick up a USB S2 box instead. Thanks for the help.

Could you not put the 7850 in the top slot, the sound card in the bottom slot, then the tv tuner back below that?

edit: Is that a matx motherboard? If so then disregard this!
