Possibly a daft question. I don't use Facebook very often, so I'm not 100% familiar with how it works. I logged in earlier to see that someone with the name "Facebook user" has sent me a message via the inbuilt messaging system. In order to read it in its entirety, I have to click "Accept." I don't recall ever having to do this before. Is it safe for me to continue?

Edit- just to clarify, the options to accept or decline are being presented on the FB website, not via the external messaging system app thingy.

Cheers.

It's been that way for a while now.

If they're not on your friends list you get to decide whether to allow them or not

Except marketplace messages.

However if they're marked as "Facebook user" it means they've either blocked you or been banned from Facebook

You have to accept if they're not on your friends list and Facebook has filtered it.

'Facebook user' generally means they've deleted their account since messaging you.

I'd reformat everything just to make sure

Yes, usually 'Facebook user' means it was a spam account that got blocked since they sent the message.

I went ahead and accepted the message. Its somekind of weird cat fishing type thing.

More like -

"Heythere good looks! I seen you in the mall and would like to meet up to you. Im the guy that was watching from over the darkness in coffee shop. You have nice clothings and bautiful legs and neck but im a shy of you and want you bad in our arms. if you like this you cam email me here and we can meet in a lovely place."

I don't visit the "mall", I don't drink coffee and I'm male. Otherwise, tempting offer.
