Access audio from NAS on iPad?

Im curious to know if there is a way, to stream music to my iPad from a drive connected on my network? Either by USB to the router or a hard wired NAS. Im aware of programs like Streamtome but this requires a mini server running on a PC which is want i want to avoid!

I know there are things like the slingbox etc but i cant believe its needed! If you can access the files on a MacBook on the wireless why not an iPad?
 
Not sure this is exactly what you're looking at, but streaming audio across my network to my ipad, i just use Itunes sharing.

Accessing a driver just attached into your router seems improbable as it has no software running to interact and understand the Ipad on the other side.

Or maybe i'm just talking rubbish. Be interested to know myself if it's possible.
 
Your talking complete sense but its not the solution im after unfortunately.

Surely if a laptop/macbook can access media on a NAS why cant the iPad? I guess if you have your own Apple Server at home there is probably a way but thats no good for me. Someone needs to make an app i think!
 
Buzz player and AVPlayer HD can stream films fine from my NAS over Wifi, never tried with just music but can't see why it won't work
 
Nas is a Network attached drive. Therefore he needs an iPad app that requires no server based client to be running. essentially accessing his network drives and scanning them using solely the iPad.

Is this correct?

Struggling to find such an app so far.
 
I have a Synology NAS (DS712+) and use the Synology ios apps for music/photo etc. Also got plex server on my nas and the ios plex app is quite nifty

The two I stated will do this, will connect to the NAS via SMB and stream, no server on a PC/Mac involved. You can also download direct from the NAS to the iPad as well. (I prefer Buzz Player to do this as it continues to download in the background)
