Access D3000/memory card through Finder/Explorer (for Windows)

With my previous small digi cam, I could connect the USB cable and a disk image would show up on the desktop to access the photos.
However since having my D3000, if I connect it via USB I am unable to access the photos this way and can only copy across using Aperture/iPhoto. Is there an obvious setting that I'm missing to enable easier copying using Finder?

There should be an option on the camera to switch between the computer recognising the camera as an actual camera (device), which is what it seems to be set at, or you can set it to a 'Mass Storage Device'. This is just on memory, hence the lack of accuracy

I import my Nikon D3000 images into aperture 3.

Guess I need to have a play and find it tomorrow as I can't for the life of me find it at the mo!
