Been playing around with my home network today both PC and laptop running win7, and now each time I try to access C drive I keep getting 'access denied' anyone know why iam being locked out?

Right-click the C: drive icon and go to Properties. Under the Security tab you should see a list of users including Administrators and Users. Administrators should have full control and and Users should have Read & Execute, List folder contents and Read checked.

I'm guessing you can still access your Desktop and My Documents folder etc?

Yup tried that, but still having trouble

Although I'm not running Windows 7, I had a similar problem with XP a few months ago, and it turned out to be a virus which stopped me accessing all my hard drives. There is a free program out there which disables autorun on all hard drives (at least that's what it said), thus stopping the virus from activating itself. I can't remember what it's called though (wish I could), but some other users might know what I'm talking about. :)

Worked for me so give it a go. Hope this helps.

Are you able to create a new admin user account?

Nope

Ah right, didnt even think about it possiably being a virus :(

Can you remember what program you used?

Have you deleted any user accounts, win 7 has an issue if you delete the user account you first created when building the pc / laptop it will randomly lock you out of drives or volumes, you will need to use the diskpart command froma command prompt.

list volume

select volume # (numer of volume with issue)

attribute volume clear readonly

three command i keep on having to use, wish there was a fix.

Having the same problem myself, i have tried fresh install etc totally confused as it worked fine a week ago.
Suggestions i have had are that its hard drive related but all scans on it seem o.k.
Are you having problems with updates and downloading progs?

This is the program I used :) finally remember lol!
From what I can see, it removes your autorun.inf files on your drives, removable drives (connect those to your PC too by the way) thereby stopping virus/worms working. It doesn't remove viruses, it just stops them from activating themselves.
Oh and as a side note, this fix worked for me, and my computer is fine, but I'm not going to promise it'll work for you.
