I have taken a hard drive out of a laptop to copy the "my documents" file over before I wipe it and re-install (computer keep runs very slow and is un-useable!)

There is no password on the user but I keep getting 'access denied' when I try to copy and paste over to another machine I put the Hdd in, both in windows and at the cmd prompt through windows. Any ideas?

Many thanks

Thanks for the info, how can I take ownership? I have tried through properties and it keeps saying access denied!

ok.

right click the file and go to properties, then click the security tab. In the security tab click 'Advanced'. In the Advance manu click the Owner tab. Then click the [your username] and make sur ethe checkbox which the text Replace owner on subcontainers and objects is checked and then click ok

That should work...
