Access layer UPS options?

We currently have many APC 6000VA Smart UPS installed in our access layer switch cabinets but have been disappointed with how long the batteries last before the UPS rejects them. This is despite the previous week it saying the run time was more then adequate and more or less the same as they were when installed. However some of these have failed in a spectacular fashion bringing the network down too (no power cuts/surges etc at the time) and this has completely dented our confidence in the product.

Anyway the point of this thread is, what do you have installed? Do they have decent monitoring capabilities (email alerts/SNMP)?

We need 1x 32 amp input, 2x 16 amp outputs and handful of 13 amps if that influences your answers.

Something from the 9SX range should be beefy enough for you.

When you say spectacular fashion, do you getting very hot and swelling? If so APC UPS have a habit of doing that!

Thanks for your suggestion, the 9SX6KiRT appears to be a direct replacement. Do you have any personal experience with their products? How long do the batteries tend to last?
 
I've used a few of their 9130 range, not had them long enough to assess how the batteries cope. Well built units, SNMP gives you everything you could ask for.
 
We don't use UPS in hub rooms, more trouble than they are worth.

We have an apc struxureware appliance for the other UPS's around the place, pretty decent reporting.
 
We are just in the process of replacing all of ours too. Our typical load after PoE etc is around 1kW per cab, give or take. We had APC UPSs, we have a lot of Symmetra models deployed globally so we were looking at symmetra units for our cabs but the small ones have unpleasant transfer and bypass characteristics so we opted for some smaller models with external battery expansion modules but an external maintenance/bypass PDU. This keeps the cost down a bit and gives us what we need from the solution.

I have hundreds upon hundreds of APC batteries globally and we've not had the problems you have had, other than the usual life cycle management.

Had similar issues a couple of years ago (SURT3000 and SURT8000 units) then realised that they need to be calibrated at least every year (or whenever there is a significant load change, i.e. adding another two switches to the cab etc.). Since then we've only had one fail, but that was caused by a 270v spike in the incoming feed.

We run Struxureware too, besides the good monitoring and centralised reporting it's actually what twigged us to look at the calibration status etc.
 
It's worth doing, sometimes raises issues that a self-test wouldn't necessarily pick up (too much load to support was one of the more interesting ones we got, turns out we did have too much on there).
