I have a Draytek Vigor 2820

Router Spec

It has a USB port so I have plugged in a pen drive and using it as a NAS. It’s working fine so far over the network and just writing to the default public path. I’m using 192.168.1.1(etc) to access it.

So I want to be able to use it from outside the network but after trying to fiddle with different things last night I can’t work out how to do it. The router supports FTP/Samba logins and I have enabled that option and setup a username and password. (see link below)

Router NAS Intructions (didn't help much)

Could anyone tell me the address that I need to be putting in to accsess this as a ftp. Like is it the IP, or the DEFAULT GATEWAY, or is it a combo of IP WORKPLACE AND HOST. I am really confused on this.

Thanks for any help :D

I have 3 of these routers, and although i've never used the FTP feature I'm pretty sure you'll need to enable FTP in NAT > Port forwarding.
Assign the port, usually 20-21 and give it the IP of your NAS (usb drive). That way, any traffic coming in on ports 20-21 gets forwarded to the IP address of your USB drive.
By default the Vigors have no NAT rules setup, so to enable things like FTP, SMTP, RDP, HTTPS, you have to manually create the rules in NAT.

Hope this helps.

not sure if this helps or not - see screenshot from my router config
you need to know your external ip address - i have a fixed ip so it is simpler, but you may need to use something like dyndns if you have a dynamic ip address
i type in x.x.x.x:7000 into a browser and if you have your nas setup correctly (i had mine on a fixed internal ip of 192.168.1.6 on port 7000) then it should connect if you have the draytek setup correctly

oops - reread your post and looked at mine with a usb plugged in, rather than a nas on my network - i see what you mean - have you enabled this?
