Hiya folks,

I've got 3 machines on my home network 2 running Win7 ultimate and a laptop running win7 home premium.

Playing around with my new galaxy nexus I can now access my network via WIFI but what do I need to do in order to access it whilst away from home.

And If i can do it with my phone then I should be able to do the same thing with the laptop..Yes?

I'm hoping that win7 can do this rather than gotomypc etc

Cheers
Matt

Wait, so you want to access the whole network when away from home? Or you just want to be able to access one of your computers at home? If the latter, just port forward port 3389 (I advise changing this) which is the remote desktop port, then get an app on your phone to connect using some sort of RDP client and you'll also be able to connect from your laptop to the computer in question using mstsc.exe.

Lol.....What?

Ok I'm re-reading it slowly.

Accessing the win7 ultimate pc's would be a result but I can get away with just the 1.

I was kinda hoping I could just access my router then the network just like I do when at home but via the net.

So if thats out the question.

Port forward??? on the router or the PC I'm trying to access

It depends what you are trying to access really. I have my router which comes with some basic ftp sfotware which was easy to set up so I can ftp into my network storage system while I am work. This is ace becuase I can use VLC player to stream via the net from my ftp site so I can watch something from the drive if/when I`m board at work. Remote access is possible as well if you need that but a simple ftp type solution might be more fitting for you.

I am not really sure how to go about setting one up from scratch becuase mine is really setup from the router but maybe someone else could help with that if that was the solition you were looking for.

Cheers guys,

I'm only really after being able to access my spreadsheets whilst away from home.

I looked at setting up a VPN but got kinda lost. As I cant visualise what I'm meant to be doing And end up with 20 google tabs open whilst searching what certain terms mean.

Setting up my home network was easy. I can access all PC's and all drives on the network from any pc now (even on my phone) but only whilst on my router. Is there no way to connect to my router from a distance and then see my network as I do when at home.

I can remotely operate my router. But that only seems to give me access to my router

Cheers again

Hamachi VPN.

Thanks

Before I spotted the above post I found a laymens guide to setting up a VPN. So I now have a VPN set up on my win7 machine. Its set up from the phone and they are both connected.

But I haven't yet sussed out how to access my files.

I have astro and ES file explorer on my Gnex.
