I am going away on holiday and have a 64gb micro SD in my S4.

I am planning to take my nexus 7 to watch films etc on the plane. Is there a way to connect them to each other by cable so the nexus sees my phone as a USB storage device and access the micro SD?

Thanks
Sukh

Not that I know of, I could very well be wrong though.

Not quite what you're asking, but an otg cable and card reader or usb drive could be worth looking into?

Well, I remember using ES File Explorer so my HTC One can see my Nexus 10's storage, and that works pretty well and requires no cable. Just needs to be on the same wifi network.

Best way is to download ES File explorer on both devices. Then, turn on wifi hotspot on your phone. On the tablet, connect to the phone's wifi hotspot.

Now open ES File explorer on the phone. Press the menu button, and then tab "Network". Select "Remote Manager" and enable it. You will be given an IP address (in the form " ftp://[IPaddress]:[Port]/ ").

Open ES File Explorer on the tablet and swipe to the "Network" tab. Press "New" at the bottom left and enter the IP address and port of the phone and tick "Anonymous", then tap OK to confirm the settings. Now selecting this should allow you to see your phone storage and hopefully SD storage too.

EDIT: Never mind didn't see the plane requirement, well that ruins things. There's the OTG option but Nexus devices has this off by default oddly enough, you need to root the N7 and use an app like Stickmount to access external storage via USB OTG.
