There are 5 computers in the house, all networked.
3 computers access all the others fine and fast, but 2 of them are very slow. On 1 of the 2 it crashes explorer for easily 5 minutes before eventually loading the folder and showing the contents. It does seem to be a network problem rather than windows from I can tell.

They actually seem to find the computer fast, for example, if i go to start, run and type "\\10.0.0.xxx" it will load the list of shared folders straight away but the slow bit is when trying to view the contents in those folders.

I've compared the settings between computers and they're all the same.

Any ideas?

My guess is the three computers working fine use Gigabit Ethernet whereas the other two don't.
Thats just a guess though. Any more information to share with us please? :)

All computers have cheap 10/100 PCI cards in. I think they're all Realtek 8139 ones.

There is 1 computer downstairs connected into a WRT45G router and 4 upstrairs connected to a Netgear 10/100 switch with a cable going downstairs into the router.

The computer downstairs has no problem accessing anything, but 2 of the ones upstairs are the problem ones whereas the other 2 upstairs are fine.

If you need to know anything else just ask

thanks
