Hi,
I've got a microserver by the TV with win 8.1, It's used as a squeezebox server, Kodi player, store data and watch online streams.
I would like to access my squeezebox server remotely and also maybe install this:

To have kodi away from home.
I've forwarded the ports for squeezeserver and I can now type in the server external IP address and connect to the squeezeserver from work.
However then it hit me than this could be unsafe for my server.

Would adding password protection in squeezserver be enough? Or do I need VPN?
Are there free VPN?
I'm also thinking of buying a domain name, would that require more security than IP address?
Cheers
