I run a network of windows 2000 based desktops.

Now I often use the default shares so I cna drop files on their systems \\machinename\c$ etc.

works well in all cases.

now I have a laptop here that is refusing to let me on the C$ share no matter what, it is windows XP though which is the only difference.

Now I have enabled file sharing and if I create a share on it then I can access that without a problem, just not the c$.

I have disabled it's F-secure firewall and the windows firewall, have checked and double checked I am entering the right username and password.

I have tried entering the user name as "administrator" and as "machinename\administrator" and neither work.

As I say if I share the root of the C: as "share" or soemthing else, then no problems, I can get on, but I really need to access the C$ so I can install software remotely :S

Please help :)

No the password isnt blank.

I can log in locally to the laptop with the admin username and password no problems.

If I share a directory or drive then I can access that with the admin username and password.

The laptop is not part of the domain as it is for a remote user so they wont be logging in to the domain.

All I can think of is that Simple File Sharing is set to enabled? Uncheck the box if it is.

Tools > Folder Options as I'm sure you know :p

Give this a try, on the laptop right click 'My Computer' and choose 'manage'. You'll get a computer management screen up, under system tools, go shared folders > shares, check that there is a C$ share for starters, if not create one!

Let me know what ya find?
