Hello,

So I've had my first accident. Somebody pulled out while looking the other way and I hit the corner of their car, not too fast, I was going 20mph before braking.

Their car has a small dent on the front wing and some scratches, I have the front fairing cracked at the front, lights pushed back and bent downwards, handlebars no longer straight.

What's the best course of action here, is it worth calling an accident management place or just my insurers claim line? I didn't get their insurer but have all the other details. The guy was quite apologetic so hopefully it won't be a nightmare.

If (and it should be) the other drivers fault (that's a basic right of way incident, you had right of way, he didn't - that's pretty black and white) then I'm pretty sure you should let his insurance deal with everything.

They'll do all the accident management etc, give you a courtesy bike and so on.

The problem with getting your insurance to deal with it is that if it's the other parties fault, your insurance will get you a hire bike at ridiculous rates and then charge the other insurance party for the cost, and they will try and keep the claim going for as long as possible before it's settled to get them to pay out for the hire bike charges for as much as they can...

Basically, if it's 100% the other parties fault it's in your insurances interest to keep the claim going as long as possible, the other drivers insurance will want it over and done with and settled ASAP to reduce costs.

I second the above. Had a similar accident to yours last August. I contacted my own insurance to initiate the claim with the third party, as I had no details of the car driver. Thats me just back on the road with a new bike 10 months later
