Accidentally permanently deleted some a google sheet from google docs. Any chance of recovery?

I've just had a maaaajor screwup.

I was trying to duplicate some google sheets across two accounts, then delete the originals from the first account as I had been working with the wrong google account the whole time.

I was really stupid and went so far as emptying the trash on the original account.

Turns out I completely misread the file name and deleted the wrong one in a rush.

Can anyone think of any possible way I might be able to recover it?

All I can think is that I know a recent copy should have been synced to a desktop computer in another part of the country earlier today.

If I get someone to take the ethernet cable out of that computer before turning it on, will the file still be there?

EDIT: I don't think that will work...just checked my other google sheets. They're only links to the cloud based version, nothing is stored locally I don't think?

I think I'm screwed :(:(:(:(

Yeh unfortunately Google docs are just links to the site, not the actual document on your machine.

Is it Google Apps for Work? Try call them, it says on their help they might be able to recover a completely deleted file: https://apps.google.com/support/

Edit: actually, if you log in as the Google Apps admin, it looks like there might be a restore feature.

Edit: here: https://support.google.com/a/answer/6052340?hl=en. Will work if you have a Google Apps account.

Yessss!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you SO MUCH!

It was an old grandfathered free account and I signed up for support so I could call them before you posted the second link.

They talked me through that and I got the file back. Over a years worth data that would have been lost forever.

I definitely owe you a drink or ten, and a hug if I ever see you at a meetup! Oh man, I've not been that concerned and worried about a data loss in years.

I try to be relatively careful about backup and redundancy, using dropbox, gdrive, multiple HDD etc. Sometimes there's no accounting for silly tired and rushed user error though.

Time to go to bed before I make any more silly mistakes!

:) :) :)
