Accidentally smashed my Advent Vega - what to buy now?

After dropping my Advent Vega and smashing the screen the insurance company have told me I am likely to get £250 back.
So the question is:
Is the Transformer the one to buy now?
Anybody want to suggest a better option?
For £429 (Transformer + keyboard) would I actually be better just to buy an iPad?

I have experience of both Android rooting and iPhone jailbreaking.

Go on, what would you have right now?

iPad 2.

Fast, stable, best app store by a country mile and it will stay that way for a long time yet.

I honestly think its the only tablet worth considering at the moment, the Transformer is nice but its still not there yet.

ipad2, because its the best package for my needs, and i wouldn't even bother JBing now, less of a need to. Chuffed to bits with mine, but that's not why i'm recommending it.

Probably not the popular choice outside of the Apple forum though!

For personal use:
I''ve decided to wait for a 2nd gen Transformer, PadFone, 2nd gen Atrix or similar concept, running either Windows 8 or Ice cream.

For the lounge/family use:
iPad 2

If you can't wait for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (it looks brilliant and will probably be market leader, but not sure about price yet), the ipad 2 is probably the 'nicest' tablet around at the moment (first time I've recommended an apple product!), but the most complete is probably the Asus Transformer in my opinion. It's not as polished, but it's also cheaper and more functional. Depends what you think you need.

Got my transformer for £350 and I have barely put it down, even though there are not a large amount of "tablet optimized" apps, a lot work and most importantly many of the best games work perfectly with the tablet and there's plenty of nvidia games out which look and play great.

Transformer is becoming my main gaming vice, haven't booted my xbox up for a while.

Apple iPad2 has a few massive issues. 1 no flash, 2 iTunes, 3 no drag and drop of files, 4 constant reformatting of media to get it onto the device. I would strongly advise steering clear of it unless all you want is a sofa surfer and or a games console...

The Transformer is the mutts...

iPad 2. Solid hardware, solid OS and a solid App ecosystem.

And an amazing accessory range.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S and love it but I've also got an iPod Touch and iPhone 3G in the house which I've experimented with.
It's a fact that everybody and his dog have been trying to copy the iPad since it appeared and to be honest my Advent Vega is a very very poor copy.
The Motorola Zoom, ASUS Transformer, Samsung Galaxy Tab all look worthy contenders but at the end of the day they are still trying to be an iPad.
I've now got to sit down and decide after months of experience of both IOS and Android experiences what I really want out of a tablet and it's pointing towards Apple.

And then I read SteveOBHave's post :(
No flash?
Does that mean iPlayer won't work?

There are apps for iPlayer and 4OD.

Flash is not a 'massive' issue, there probably aren't many situations where you need Flash and there are plenty of apps to cover for it in many cases.

iTunes is a selling point and something that is actually quite useful for many people.

I strongly disagree, and this is coming from someone who really likes Android.

Apps available for those few services that require it normally.

iTunes is the necessary evil although it's not nearly as bad as some make out.

You can drag and drop files with iTunes which is good enough for me.

Use an app to stream video over the air or buy and app for watching your xvids.:p

Neither of the last two are more expensive than £1.79

Not convinced me so far. :p
