Hey guys,

I need a bit of help. I am applying for a job, based near the Waterloo tube station. Obviously, as I am currently living in Scotland I would need to relocate.

My income would be £17,000, rising to £20,000 after 3 months. The job would be shift pattern, and involve travelling to work for 0700, as well as travelling home finishing at this time. It would also involve travelling home from a shift finishing at 2200.

Can you guys give me any hints and tips for areas I should be looking to rent in, so I can start to decide if this is affordable or not?

Many thanks

Some ideas as I used to do the commute to Waterloo a lot. You'll need to be looking for a room in a shared house/flat:

South London - Borough, Elephant and Castle, Kennington: "vibrant and diverse" areas. Not my cup of tea at all. These places would be within walking distance however.

SW London - Wimbledon/Raynes Park/Kingston/Surbiton: Nicer areas of London but probably more expensive.

Surrey - Woking has fast trains to Waterloo, obviously costs a lot more but will probably be cheaper to live. Check the stations between Epsom and Waterloo - if you're outside of the London travel zones it will cost you a lot more in rail tickets.
