Hi,

We have a couple of people who are trying to test some document management software, the machines they are using are not on the domain.

When they try to open outlook they get an authentication box which they enter their correct details to connect to the exchange server however it keeps locking out their domain user account?

can anyone shed some light on what it could be? i have already set the lockout threshold to 5 but it still happens? There are also no stored/old passwords?

many thanks in advance :)

are they prefixing the user account with the domain first ? eg:

domain\username
password

if the account locks out I'd guess it knows the user name you are trying to use..

maybe type the password into the username box jsut to be sure they dont have a funny kb mapping) - IE you put a # in the password but their kb maps that to a £..?

We use se2 which double hash's passwords and causes funny problems (I assume you are not useing anything like that?)

there is a registry change to do with lm security... I keep having to change it to allow vista machine speak to xp... I'll see if I can find the option.. (we some times get into the same knot with xp and w2k - and it does lock the accounts out..) - I only bother to post this without the answer incase someone reads it who knows the setting off the top of their head...

ok thanks :)

It's so annoying as according to MS knowledge base changing the lockout threshold to more than 3 should cure the problem, we set it 5 and it still seems to occur? Another user has also tried and they get the same problem
