Much as the title I guess, I'm fed up of paying my accountant quite so much and it doesn't seem so complicated so I could use some accounting software.

It needs to do two things, run my limited company (sole purpose - hiring me out as a contractor so hardly complicated accounts but I do make use of every tax loophole going so if it knows about them, so much the better)

And sort my personal accounts, right now I hardly budget at all, always have cash spare at the end of the month but I'd like to keep a better eye on where it goes in a perfect world. so just something which is quick and easy for personal accounts.

Could be one package, could be two. Cost isn't too important, I'd prefer not to spend too much but I'm not looking for free either...

Cheers for that, I do like the look of iBank and I'll have a look at the trial. I'm not sure on the surface it's got all the features I'd like for tracking VAT and such but we shall see. Thanks for the recommendations!

The only fully UK centric accounting package I've come across for the mac is MYOB.

Here we currently use Sage Instant Accounts on a Windows machine and RDC to it from the mac. Looking at Microsoft Office Accounting as well at the moment. I'd say your probably better off looking at a combination of Parallels/VMware Fusion and a Windows Program to be honest.

Any opinions of MYOB??

Do you know the tax loop holes? Would it work out cheaper if you had an accountant + tax loop holes than no accountant? Are you 100% sure you know how to sort out your accounts? If you miss something it can bite you on the arse.

I know it fairly well, I have a few friends I can get to check it as well. It's not hugely complicated, flat rate VAT, pay myself the minimum salary and a dividend every 3 months, offset everything thats a business expense (though I don't have many)...
