Hi all,
Not sure if this is worth sending back, but I got it for a Christmas present from my wife and only just got around to using it and have noticed some issues I cannot ignore.

First I have been noticing a lot of flickering especially when games load, oddly.. when the game is running it seems fine, but just before a level loads (WoW or DA:I for instance) there is heavy flickering.

Another major issues is the backlight bleed. It seems overly bad to me, although I have seen pictures online that have been worse. I am used to IPS displays, so this might just be one of those TN panel issues.

This really annoys me as the light seems to be a blueish colour and I can still see it in-game in the darker scenes in the above mentioned games. Should I return the monitor? Or is it something I have to put up with as I am unlikely to get a better replacement?

Thanks
Spike

If this is the gsync monitor then the flickering you are refering to happens with all GSYNC monitors and is a bug with gsync where the frame rate drops to 0 in a game usually during loading screens and causes this flicker.

You have a small amount of backlight bleed there but doesn't look too bad. You can always adjust your brightness setting to try to compensate a little.

Also TN panels are not great with viewing angles so as you move the colour of light actually shifts. Make sure that your monitor height is correct and see if raising it a bit helps with your perception of the bleed.

Just a few suggestions but the flickering is a gsync issue and I am guessing you have the gsync version of the monitor.

It happens to all gsync monitors. You can always turn gsync off!

Just been talking about this in the main Acer XB280HK thread.
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18608008&page=11

I sent mine back (less than a month old) because I had backlight bleed like yours on the bottom 10mm all the way across plus all up the right side and a 5cm blob on the upper left.
Its currently "under repair" at Acer and I did a live chat yesterday and they are replacing the LCD panel so I am hoping I get one back with very little or no bleed.

I've always had TN panels and had some bleed but never this bad. I really like the XB280KH though.

If you want to send it back they send an UPS courier to come and collect it free of charge.

Unacceptable. I would be sending this back to overclockers for a refund or replacement. How do things like this slip past Acer Q&A? and why do a company the size of OcUK put up with this garbage.

OCUK refer you to the monitor manufacturer. Its probably better than mine going by the picture.

And I would refer OcUK to trading standards, or my credit card company. If he bought it from OcUK then they should deal with the issue and make sure the replacement is issue free.

What if Acer send a screen with the same problem and you want a refund as it's not fit for purpose? Acer will say sorry, you didn't buy it from us and point you to OcUK.

I wasnt talking about a refund I was talking about getting it fixed under warranty so in this case you deal direct with Acer. Thats what onsite warranty means. I`m pretty sure its standard with monitors. If you recall when they were selling the foreign ones they struck a deal to handle the warranty themselves so that customers wouldnt have to send them back overseas. I think the other thing is logistics if you think about your monitor would go to OCUK via courier, then to Acer, then fixed, then to OCUK, then to you. Thats 4 times in the hands of a courier. Acer send their courier free of charge to collect your monitor. If you send it back to OCUK eg for a refund or changed your mind this is not under warranty its under the DSR or whatever its called and you have to pay postage. If you are buying a monitor you really need to understand this. I bet a lot of people dont.

I am sorry to hear of this issue, as the product decription states the warranty on these monitors are all on site with Acer.

They will be able to replace the screen for you, their contact number is 0371 760 1000.

The only way these kinds of problems will get fixed is if people put pressure on the supply chain to do better. Somebody somewhere is swinging the lead.

To me the image quality and issues this screen has are unacceptable and shouldn't happen. If this monitor is typical (and from the threads it might well be) OcUK should do something about it. £600 screens should't have any issues, or ever need sending back. God knows what the lower end monitors look like.

Just thought I should let you know. The Acer is going back again today. It developed stuck red pixels in a little triangle shape. I tried various methods to get rid of it, tapping the screen, damp cloth, utilities and it did go away but now its on all the time and I cant get rid.

Rang Acer and complained and I have been assured it will be fixed this time.

Its such a shame because the screen image quality and 4k gaming is fabulous. Just wont buy another Acer.
