Hello,

I have a Acer 6930G with a intel P7450 CPU.

The laptop is working fine but i need a CPU that supports VT for virtualization for VMWare and alike.

I have found a Intel P8400 on ebay for £90 which supports VT.

Is it easy to change the CPU over on theses notebooks ?? or is it even possible to do a CPU swap on a notebook ?? i no RAM and HDD can be changed just never done a CPU.

Also i am think new CPU thats alittle quicker more heat etc could this cause problems.

Any help or info would be great.

Thanks Ben

Very doubtful to be honest, they tend to be soldered. Typically the same for graphics too unless it's something like a Dell XPS with discrete graphics.

most CPU`s aren't soldered in infact
and they can be easy to change, mine took less than 10mins to swap over
if the CPU socket and chip set supports that CPU then you should be fine to swap it
running a CPU with VT wont be the only thing you will need to do, you will need to enable VT in the bios as acer tend to have it turned off
so you will need to flash the bios with a bios with VT enabled(thats what i had to do with my 8930)
have a look here and see if anyone has done that on your model

Thanks for the info.

I think it might make more sense to just sell this laptop and buy a new one with VT support out the box.

Wonder how much i could get for my Acer 6930G, brought it for £600 back in May 09.

Time to strat looking...
