I'm thinking of buying a desktop replacement this summer, tired of lugging the desktop from uni and back, plus when I come home for weekends I have no decent PC to use .

I've been used to a 20" monitor for 3 years now, so don't want to downsize too much. The Acer has an 18" screen, so it should be plentiful. Also I enjoy the odd few games, you know, CSS, Splinter cell etc, so the 9500m GS should be fine at a res of 1920 x 1080 for gaming with the old ish games. Also liking the blu ray drive, the total of the laptop is ~ £1030 for the one I'm looking at.

Has anybody actually had any experience with them? I really don't know why but upon speculation there was an uproar in amazement on many websites due to it being the first 16:9 laptop display, but since their launch in April I can't find one single review for them? Its confusing :( Hoping someone can help me out here, I don't know if there is something wrong with them or are they excellent machines?

Tar :)

i just read a preview on cnet.co.uk and they like it but said the styling wasnt to everyones taste, "busy" was a term they used a lot goin on when you open it up, and the speakers were poor even though it is a true 5.1 set up, other than that looks a very nice model.

Thanks for that, that's the problem though, its a preview, and it says a review will be coming shortly, but that was in March?!

I prefer the design of it to the M1530, its just that due to the high price of the Acer, I want to keep it for at least 3-4 years and for it to be able to handle current games too.

It's a shame the only review I can find on the web is 1 user review, nothing from the big websites :(

Heard bad things about Acer desktop replacements, can't remember the model number but upgrading the ram would make the laptop refuse to boot even though it claimed it was upgradable. Must have been on the older models.

If you can afford it try and stay away from Acer, once your machine goes to the repair centre it will never be the same, always needing things done or failed repairs.

edit: 3-4 years? Good luck. Buy something with better quality.

Thanks for your post, I've heard a mixed bag about Acers, just wondering about your opinions. Haha don't say good luck :D my decision is not set in stone, I've got ages to decide, will be slaving away over the summer holidays at work :(. I was looking at Vaio's as well, also was looking at Zepto's; they seem to be pretty cheap for their specs.

I've decided to downgrade the spec to a more reasonable price than originally. Original price was actually £1130, but found it on a site for £970 if you use the SAVE30 voucher.

Thats a downgrade from a T9300 -> T8300, loose a tv tuner and loose a bit of HDD space.

Still keeping options open :D
