Hi,

I have a Acer 8935g with a screen problem. The screen basically looks like this:

So, GPU or Screen is failing, I thought. I tried it on an external monitor and it works perfectly. So, I ordered myself a new screen.....problem is still there?! what could it be? cable perhaps? also is there still a possibility it could be the GPU? not displaying the primary display properly?

Cheers

Tried taking out the MXM card, HD4670XT and still the same problem, must be the cable. Damn any ideas where I can get one?

Yeah spooted that the other and as I can't find one anywhere else, I've had to buy it :-( If this doesn't work what else could it be?

You have a chip on the motherboard that takes the output from the graphics card and turns it into the (2 in this case) LVDS channels which are sent off to the display. If this chip is damaged it can also cause screen failure. Rare, but if it is then it's very hard to fix.

As for the part number for the cable it is: 50.PDA07.002 and I see that's its shared with other models such as the 8940g, best I could find is:

Who could maybe order it for you? They list it at around 18 quid.

Update:

Tried the new cable, still not working. Managed to break the old screen too, so now I'm £200 down and still with a broken laptopat total loss....think I should just cut my losses on this one and bin it.....

EDIT - Sometimes (probably 1 boot in 20) the BIOS/POST screen looks perfect then about 30 seconds into windows it gets garbled again and flickers. Every other time though, it happens from boot.
