Hi guys, I need your help with my Dads laptop. His laptop was over heating for some time now but it was never a problem until the graphic card give up. Now his stuck with laptop that will not work no mater what, I have tried to repair but it only worked for few weeks. Now the graphic card is dead and there is no way to repair it. It have to be change for new one, same or different model. This is when my question comes, I have read on internet that this graphic card is factory faulty so no matter what I do it will died too. There is however a different one from radeon that runs cooler and has more power. Can any of you help me out with that as I dont want to spend to much money on repair.

This is a link http://www.acerdirect.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_9920G_Laptop_LX.AKE0U.003/version.asp

Thanks for help.

Having read in this forum: http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/475196-9920g-gpu-options.html it looks like it could be tricky updating to the HD3650 as you will need to flash the VBios blind to update to the Radeon and ive read quite a few pages now and the talk is the laptop screen wont work and they can only get the video card to work on a separate monitor!

I dont know what level of expertise you have? :) I would try your luck and get another 8600gt but like you said they are dodgy anyway :(

As for another 8600gt it is possible to get one from 2010/11 which is build from different components and this fault is sort out. The only problem is that you can only get used one for £130+ with 30 days warranty.

I did read it some time ago but couldn't find a perfect solution. If HD3650 worked for sure on this laptop after Vbios update I would order one today but I dont want to spend £100+ on graphic card that will work or not.

As for my knowledge I am experience in software and a bit less hardware wise...

Any thoughts?
