Acer Aspire 1682 WMLI

Hi
A work colleague is selling his Acer Aspire notebook, and I managed to convince him to sell it to me for £350, however there are a few things before I buy that I would like help with

I am going to test run the lappy tomorrow

This notebook is nearly 10 months old, is this a good asking price?

He is french, the laptop came from france. It therefore has a french keyboard, anybody used a french keyboard before, is it much of a pain in the but?

The warranty is also in france, but he promised to give me this, if I have a french warranty can I still use this to return if faulty, if so how would I go about that?

The CD-Rom drive apparently stops working occassionally, this could just need a head clean, would this be reasonable grounds to return to acer?

Anybody own this laptop and recommend it, anybody have any pros and cons to add to theis laptop?

Edit: he claims to be able to play GTA: San Andreas very well, I am not a hardcore gamer, but the odd game on the train would be very cool. Is there 64Mb memory shared or is it solely for the mobile 9700? what is the grfx performance?

I had one of these for a while, sold it in december before i bought my desktop. Its a solid allround laptop. £350 is a good price, I sold mine for £499. I used it for gaming as well as the normal surfing the net, dvd watching etc. The 64mb memory is solely for the graphics card, not shared. I played the quake 4 demo, as well as a lot of halo which it managed to handle easily. A few good thing I liked about the laptop, the screen was huge and very crisp, the weight and size was good but the best thing was the acer power manager, I managed to get 6 hours from the laptop after tweaking the settings whilst i was typing and listening to music.

thanks gib786, that's very helpful. I'm getting quite excited about it now, especially since I have always wanted a laptop but never had the fund, I just hope the Cd drive is ok, and if not that it can be RMA'd easily despite being from france.

If for example, that acer except it, would they repair it or send me another laptop, if they send me another laptop could I request a UK keyboard?

Come to think of it, which would I like more, a 20" Flat screen, wide screen maybe or a second hand laptop. damn that's a tricky question

sorry for the late reply. tought question, I love my 20.1" belina but I like my laptop as much, personally I couldnt decide between the 2 and would just buy both!
