Hi Guys,

My girlfriend has the above mentioned laptop and the internal power socket is stuffed... soldering came away as did the connection still attatched to the adapter. Now I have been told I need a replacement daughter board, I have no idea about laptops though have built several pc's over the years so need advice, is there any soldering involved, which I cant do, and how hard is it to source the part...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

A problem that affects a lot of laptops and is very common.

Soldering is required if you want to do it yourself, but tbh I would send it to a shop to get it done. I had the same problem and it can cost around £50-£70 minimum to get it fixed. A lot of people on eBay sell the service if you want to look into that.

Although is the laptop old now? May not be worth your while fixing if it's too old.

Thank you for responding, its about 4 years old, I figured it should be binned however she has a lot of photo's and things that she doesnt want to lose, is that £50 - £70 for the replacement part aswell?

Are there any good guides for learning how to repair laptops

you can either buy a socket for a few quid of ebay or a new power board £40-£50 if the orginal one is too damaged they can some times burn the board out with shorting over time, there are some listed on ebay also.

These are fairly easy to take apart, the main thing you have to be careful with is with the connectors as they are delicate and easily broken also make sure you take out all the correct screws and don't try rip the case apart with a screw still in it.
