My girlfriend's laptop is running really sluggishly and I think it's down to memory and general hard drive space. The drive is only 69gb or so and I've managed to get 29gb free but I then wondered if the memory could do with an improvement? I went onto the Corsair website and entered the model into the configurator and it seemed to think it could take up to 4gb?! Surely not???

I'm also thinking maybe it would benefit from a bigger hard drive, but unsure what type it takes, could be sata or IDE (obviously 2.5" though).

I can't find and manuals/info online about what it can take which is frustrating too! Any other info would be great!

Hard drive will be under a panel on the base, couple of screws, pop it hout and have a look, lots of pins = ide flat connector = sata, it might have a connector stuck on it that fits to the mainboard, if you don't fancy doing this the model should be listed in bios or device manager and google it. 4gb would be over kill imo 2 would suffice.

the 5600 is C2D laptop right? if it is i would imagine it would be 2.5" SATA drive, don't think many IDE laptops knocking around these days, but wait for another reply just to be on the safe side :)

I have a 5633 and I can confirm that it's a SATA drive. I had a 250GB 7200rpm drive in mine at one point...
It will also take up to 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 667MHz RAM although you'll only see 3GB of it.

I would suggest checking that disk interface before buying anything if you have a 5600 as opposed to a 5633.

A google for 5600_3680.pdf appears to return the user manual for the 5600 and 3680 models. Looking at the specs given there (page 21 onwards ... but if you are viewing as html via google then go by the small page numbers not googles bold ones) yes it can be upgraded to up to 4GB (DDR2 533/667) in two soDimm modules but this document indicates that the disk interface is PATA (fromm the OP I'd guess it's 80GB with a hidden recovery partition).

Yeh I wondered if it was an 80gb with hidden partition.
Think I'll get her a 2x1gb kit then, see if any is going cheap on the MM :)

I'll take the drive out later today and have a look, cheers for the info guys :)

EDIT - just found the 2gb kit that came with my iMac. It's PC2-6400, would this be ok?
