Hey,

ok i have a acer aspire 5630 laptop for uni (aside from the gaming rig), i want to upgrade to windows 7 (i have the iso on the dvd). However, there is no option when booting to enter the bios? it goes straight to the acer screen and then loads vista, you can only press f2 which takes you to the safemode/normal boot screen.

anyone know how i can get around this and access the bios?

I don't want to install windows 7 on my desktop as i have important and very expensive GIS software on there which i know is not windows 7 compatible (my friend found this out unfortunatley)!

any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Cai

Well first try repeatingly pressing f10 or f12 when the acer "splash screen" appears. Though it should say exactly what key to press.

Read the instruction manual, will probably tell you how to enter the BIOS or the boot device selection.

F1, F2, Del are the only keys that i know of that take you to the BIOS. Since you've ruled out F2, you've got two left...

Also, make sure you can get all of your laptops drivers before upgrading, and what ever you do, don't format the recovery partition.

BIOS utility
The BIOS utility is a hardware configuration program built into your
computer's BIOS.
Your computer is already properly configured and optimized, and you do not
need to run this utility. However, if you encounter configuration problems, you
may need to run it.
To activate the BIOS utility, press <F2> during the POST; while the notebook PC
logo is being displayed.
