As in thread title my little sisters Acer laptop keeps getting stuck in a continuous boot cycle and the only way to stop it is to take out the battery.

It gets to the first acer splash screen then reboots after about 5 seconds.

Occasionally after a battery removal it will manage to load into windows (7 64) and run fine but the problem starts again after a reboot.

I've run all the usual scans with MWB, antivirus etc and a checkdisc and it's all come up clear and i've searched t'webs for solutions and it seems quite a widespread problem. Causes ranging from loose solder on the graphics card to a corrupt boot loader have been mentioned but i'm not sure how i'd find out.

Anyone got any suggestions before I alt f10 and restore to factory default?

That's kind of a last resort.....was hoping someone might be familiar with a cause. :)

its 100% sure its a hardware or software fault

if its software its 1 of 500 things so if you factory restore you rule out software issues....

if you have spare ram you could try different sticks, but as you probably dont its still better to do the restore and prove if its hardware or software

Thanks i'll do that. Thing is it's not getting past the Acer splash screen before it powers off and reboots so i'm thinking it's not a software issue. The rare times it manages to get into windows everything then works fine

It got stuck in a boot loop again and no amount of button pressing would do anything so I twisted the case slightly in one direction and then the other and now it boots normally. I'm thinking a broken contact somewhere in the board that's connected again by me flexing it.

I used to have a TV that would turn off randomly and only turn on again if I whacked it hard in a certain place. :p
