Basically, I am thinking of buying this Laptop from a couple of places which shall remain nameless, but the seperate retailers are selling the Laptop with slight differances.

Retailer A

  • 2GB of DD2 Ram
  • 120GB HDD
  • Core 2 Duo T7300 Processor

Retailer B

  • 3GB of DD2 Ram
  • 160GB HDD
  • Core 2 Duo T5750 Processor

Both are the same price.

Is it worth sacrificing the extra 1gig of RAM and HDD space for the upgraded processor? I would mostly be using the Laptop for Uni work, web browsing, and occasionaly playing music/video and casual gaming (maybe FIFA or whatever - my desktop is my gaming rig)

Thanks for the help :)

But it's worth buying the laptop with the amount of RAM you need now and in the future, being that laptop memory is expensive, and the limited number of slots- might need to sell off existing memory to fit a new one.

For non gaming rig then you don't need to go for 3GB model, although this is with XP I have no used Vista enough to say whether 2GB will cap out.

Yeah it will have Vista and I hear it's very memory intensive so that is my main motivation around getting the extra 1GB.

My girlfriends old Laptop had 1GB and Vista, and it's boot time and general speed is painfully slow.

Ram is cheap, very cheap. You could simply buy a new 2GB stick and add it after. Hard drives are also not bad considering you could sell your old one also.

I would choose the faster cpu over the rest.

Go for this one, better cpu (higher fsb+ more cache), 2gig is fine for Vista
