acer aspire one won't boot??

i have an acer aspire one, and i installed ubuntu 10.4 via usb on it, i then left it on standby, well closed the lid and didn't use it for about a week?? i then tried to install a edited version of windows XP, which was specifically targeted at gamers? so a lot of the services etc etc have been taken out, anyways it booted fine and i started the installer, i didn't even get to the stage where it asked me about partition options and then i got the bsod followed by a blank blue screen and then i forced a turn off, Now when i turn on the netbook i just get a black screen. The hard drive seems to be working as i can hear it and i can't do anything else.
What could be the problem??

i did the bios update thing, turning on whilst holding fn+esc and pressing the power button etc, it reboots by itself but i still get the black screen

sounds very much like the bios problem widely reported. I have had two aspire ones that failed that way. I would try the bios update again, make sure you follow the directions very closely.
