acer aspire v3-571 laptop not booting ?

My friend asked me what is wrong with his laptop , when he is trying to boot up it has black screen no mechanical sounds only power and battery light is on, hdd light is not on(off). could it be hard drive problem , wouldn't laptop still boot to bios without hdd or broken hardrive?

any ideas ?

edit: nvm fixed fiddled around with hdd and ram and it booted

yes the notebook would still boot into bios if the hdd was dead..

try removing the hdd and booting then.. also try swapping the memory around if it has two sticks installed... just boot with one in, if that dont work, try the other stick... if one boots in and the other don't... thats your problem..

also if you can, take the back off and take the CMOS battery out for a bit and then put it back in.

sounds like a MB fault to me mind
