acer black screen

hi have acer 5742 only 18 months old and suddenly cant see startup as screen is black.
How do I correct this problem

Try reseating the memory, or try one stick at a time, if that doesn't fix it it's probably the motherboard.

Could be hard drive. Can you get into BIOS?

I would agree with trying to re-sit the memory and the hard drive i have a Acer aspire 5738z and the screen went black and would not work i re-set the memory and then it worked no problems since sorry for just re-iterating what has just been said but i know from experience this has worked for me.
