Acer Laptop - Help!

My friend has an Acer Aspire 3690, all of a sudden it wont start up! Windows XP scrren comes on as normal but no log in box comes up, just a blue screen with the acer wallpaper, can move mouse but can't do anything else, no folders etc show up.

Any idea's before I try and format???

Sounds like somethings trying to load before explorer.exe... have you tried leaving it for ages?

Try ctrl+alt+del, then look through the processes and close anything that might be delaying it.

Or try closing explorer.exe in the processes tab (if it's actually open) then cltrl alt del -> file -> run -> explorer to restart explorer.

I think something wierd is in startup thats not letting everything else load properly.

Nothing happens when i try ctrl+alt+delete, like i say, can only move mouse cursor and thats it. Tried leaving it for a while but no change only thing on the screen is the ascer aspire logo wallpaper.

Have you tried booting it into safe mode? Sometimes it will clear odd problems like this. Also try holding the left shift key down as soon as XP starts to load as this should stop it running anything that's in the startup folder. Keep it down until XP finished loading.
