I have recently been given an Acer5733 laptop to try and fix that had been overheating and shutting off.
So I did the usual removal of dust but still the cpu temp was over 50c when just idle, and running prime95 would still make the machine crash.
So I decided to remove the heat sink on the cpu and take a look at the thermal paste.
And I'm glad I did:
(Images are larger than 1280 so in spoilers)
Cleaned it up and put some paste on:
Idle temps are now 35c and it easily survives Prime95 with temps never going above 80c
Just wanted to share in case any one else ever has this problem.
