just wondering if the copy of Windows XP Home Edition i got with my laptop would able to be installed onto my pc? to replace x64 which is rubbish..

can it be done?

Simple answer - Nope its illegal.
Complex answer - it is tied to your laptop, and will be an OEM version. You are only allowed to install an OEM version on a single computer. It also may have aditional laptop-only software automatically installed, thus preventing it from running correctly on your main PC

But (and IANAL), most windows licences are backwards-compatible. An XP licence will allow you to install '98, for example.

So you might be ok.
