I feel I may be in the market for such a device - read both the dedicated threads on Ones/EEE's, but hear there's a whole new raft of them coming out soon... Best to get now, or wait for the new ones (Dell etc?) Don't need it for much, web and email on the go, films and dumping memory cards from my DSLR on it would be about it...

I'd like to hear from those with a sub-notebook, and those considfdering as well:)

I've got an EEE900. I love it. In fact at the moment I hardly use my quite high spec Vostro.

I was waiting to see the 901 but it was taking ages to get availability. In the end I saw a 900 on offer at a well known online retailer for 235 all in. (20Gb linux version).

Went for it have haven't looked back.

I have a Black Linux 20gb EEE 901 ... at least it came with Linux not its running WinXP SP3 and I've upgraded the memory to 2GB.

It's absolutely great and is getting far more use than any of my other machines as it's so portable. The screen is small but of reasonable quality. The keyboard is small but usable.

I've been using mine to play movie files quite a bit off of a bus powered 320GB WD Passport drive and it works really well.

Whether you should get this or one of the others on the market ... well personally i've always had cooling issues with Acer laptops so I avoided the One, the Wind, I think, has a harddisk instead of a SSD and I don't think the Dell has as high a spec.

i would like one for just abit of fun but i think its best to wait until there is some more updates and price drops as there still new so yer i say best to wait unless you really want one now

so its best to let them all come out and fight for prices and let time sort them out

I've got the same question really, atm I'm thinking between the Eee PC or the MSI Wind, but can't make up my mind. What's everyone elses thoughts?

I'm just about to buy a eee 901 xp. I figure that the point of a netbook is to be highly portable- the battery life of the 901 swung it for me... You can also get 9-cell batteries of the bay that will fit the 901 that extend it's battery life.
eee = win :D

i'm looking forward to the release of the Dell.

i was getting all excited about the Acer one, but the price hikes (although minimal) and the gap between the screen and the main body put me off some.

Also, i've already got a 12" laptop. i'm finding it VERY difficult to justify buying a 9" one too! :p

<edit>
i was just thinking earlier how Dell have got some really top-notch Designers in for this generation of their products. certainly beats the crap out of the last Gen. Inspiron D620? HURG¬!

The battery life off the 901 will swing it for a lot of people. Also, the community that has been built up around the Eee is quite good. There are lots of guides and software for doing all sorts of stuff.

another vote for the eee. My 900 - now with a customised Ubuntu installation - has almost completely replaced my desktop at the moment, so convenient to just wander into the yard and have a sit while browsing :D
