Hi all, i've been asked to sort out an acer PC with a really wierd problem!

when the USB dongle for a wireless mouse is plugged in the PC crashes on the ACER splash screen. ive been in the BIOS - the PC is not set to boot from removable device, or even USB device.

does anyone have any other ideas? short of ringing acer - im pretty much out of ideas :(

All usual troubleshooting methods carried out..

for reference i believe its an ACER issue because at work (a school) we have an acer machine that does the same but with a USB Interactive whiteboard.

well, its a microsoft mouse. id hope it was compatible with OS. i dont think this one is an OS issue as the PC doesnt get past the post which is before the drivers are loaded.

to answer your question though, The drivers are up to date. as is the OS (XP SP3 and all updates) BIOS upgrade i havent checked. could solve it i suppose.

yes. ive tried it on my own PC which will boot with it plugged it. on the PC it is to be used with once the pc has booted into windows plug the dongle in and away it goes.

thats odd:\ normally when windows is booting everything up it checks everything thats plugged into your USB ports, it's obv not liking it when checking the ports.

this isnt happening when windows is loading. Its when the PC is performing the POST. which makes me pretty sure its not a windows issue.
