My acer 5050 laptop power pack went one day so i replaced it to find the new one wasnt working, light was still (power pack) but no power getting to the laptop...

Ive done 3 power packs now and it seems like they are blowing when they get plugged into the laptop.

Any ideas as to why this is happening and whats wrong?

Thanks.

Not checked, had the laptop checked and said it was a small thing at top of keyboard next to power point ...

£100 to be replaced!!!

Now im not sure if the guy is taking the **** or not!

Was he talking about the socket on the mainboard, £100 is far too much imo, £50 is more realistic, its less than an hours job and sockets are circa £5.

Ive done a picture to show where the guy was telling me in the computer shop..

Said theres something in there that needs replaced, something to do with power and volts or something its sending too much volts to the power pack so its blowing them..

there is no other component in this laptop power wise, so maybe he's narrowed it down to a component on the motherboard, I still think £100 is too much to spend on a laptop this age.

Most likely something on the motherboard and not the dc jack.

£100 sounds like a reasonable price, is he offering warranty on this?

If you are thinking of getting a new laptop, then think about the hassle of setting things up again on a new laptop, also at £300 the laptop isnt going to be much better than that one.

Ive a funny feeling hes trying to rip me off! think im just ganna bin it and get a new laptop, ill have about £400 to spend at the end of this month.

Should get something better for £400.
