Acer prebuilt systems - anyone got one?

Been offered the following used system for a fairly decent price :

Acer 5630 desktop PC

Q6600 CPU
500Gb SATA2 HDD
Radeon 2400 GFX ( no idea if its pro of XT )
2Gb DDR2 - again no idea what speed/brand
18x DVDRW
Midi tower case + some PSU
No idea what make model the mobo is
Vista HP

OK, what are the chances the CPU is a G0 stepping? Its a few months old. If i was to get this id be using the Q6600 in my rig ( even if it turns out to be a B3 ) so my current 2160 would go in the acer. Would this affect the vista licence? And im assuming the mobo should be ok with an E2160 if it works with a Q6600?

Hi ya Paul,

CPU's will be able to retro-fit in the acer no probs.

As for the Vista licence im not sure, i would've thought that if it's OEM then it'd only be applicable to the one spec of kit, saying that im sure that MS would activate it by phone if you explained that you changed the cpu.

The only thing i'd be wary of would be the psu, it isnt going to be a decent one.

Changing the CPU should be fine, usually OS's are locked to the mobo

Too be honest im probably gonna keep the CPU and maybe the HDD then flog the rest.

Only problem is if the HDD had the only way of recovering the system on it with a hidden partition, then id have to sell it as a bundle with the mobo and probably the case if the licence sticker is stuck to it
